Apparently this is my new normal as far as books read in a month! Not sure how I got here, but I’ll take it.
So many good ones in October, so we’ll get started!
Let’s shake it up and start with contemproary fiction:
Over the Edge by Tari Faris and Susan May Warren
This romantic suspese (and book one of the series Summer Rangers) from Sunrise Publishing intrigued me because it brought to the forefront a character from Susan May Warren’s many series—Nimue. I was so happy for her to get a story, and what a story it was! Lots of suspense. I couldn’t put it down. Now this means I have another series to keep up with. Sigh.
The Story Between Us by Susan and Sarah May Warren
Another “book one,” this time of Falling for Flannel in Maple Lake—the perfect series for fall. Especially since book four is a Christmas book. Of course, that also means I need to get to that fourth book soon. But if the others are like this one, that won’t be a problem. So, so good. The kind of book you keep wanting to find time to read. I’m already well into the second book in the series, which my sister has told me is great, too.
The Time-Slip Letters by Kim Duffy
Loved this time travel/magical realsim (although contemproary set) romance novella. So sweet. If you like the old movie Somewhere in Time, you’ll enjoy this story, too.
First to Fall by Jenny B. Jones
Jenny’s stories just make me laugh. And she writes sarcasm and banter with the best of them. This book #2 of The Lost Story Bookshop hit all the right notes for me. Her characters and very quirky and might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoy these stories so much.
One non-fiction this month—and it was fabulous!
A Woman’s Place is in the Story by Sandra L. Glahn
Wow. Such a great reexamination of a few of the stories of women we have in scripture. But not just the woman as vingettes. This books examines the place of each story within the context of the larger story of that book of the Bible and the Bible as a whole. It reads these stories in context not extracting them from it, which can change the way we see the stories and the women in them.
And the largest category: historical, as usual.
In These Hills by Tamera Alexander
Waiting so long for a new book from Tammy did not disappoint! I loved this book so much. So many things going on there. So many great truths put on display. So, so good.
To Educate an Earl by Gabrielle Meyer
The third Dollar Princess book, and my new favorite of that series. Although I also said that after book 2! This story is based on The Sound of Music. She does such a good job making the story simliar but not exact, but just like in the movie musical, I loved how each character had to grapple with their past and change as they reconized their feelings for one another.
An Accusing at the Old Bailey by Erica Vetsch
The final book in Of Cloaks and Daggers—but I hope it’s not the final book with this world and its characters! But what a great ending for Bertie and Pippa. And a wonderful mystery that I didn’t figure out until just before it was revealed! She creates such great charactes!
Whispers on the Tide by Naomi Rawlings
Another series I’m working through—Dawn of Alaska. This was book #3. Really good. And love that I’m also learning new things about the history of Alaska! Also fun to then go to a museum with my daughter where I saw whaling boats from this time period, too.
A Dangerous Heart by Wendy Galinetti
Wind River Mail Order Brides #4! I love a good mail-order bride story and Lacy Williams mentored the authors in this series so well with that. Lots of suspense in this story, too.
Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Vol. 3-5 by Beth Brower
Whipping through the audio versions, although I want to read them, too, so I’m torn. But oh, such good stories. Most of the time I laugh, and yet, the end of vol. 5? Tear. Jerker. Listening to vol. 6 now. So many twists and turns in this series that keep me going.
That’s it—and it’s plenty! And I have four books that I’ll finish near the beginning of November! But after that . . .
Christmas reading! Yay!
Which ones of these have you read? Which ones are you excited to read?
