Another great month of reading! Some fun historical fiction. Some fun contemporary fiction. And re-reading a classic set. So here we go!
The Unexpected Inn by Rachael Bloome
This is the second Blessings Bay book. I love her Poppy Creek series so much that I worried a little about a whole new town and cast of characters. But I needn’t have! Several romances in one in this story. It’s great.
A Pearl Before Spies by Rebecca Connally
Another Agents of the Convent book—which means Regency lady spies! Loved this one set on Guernsey. Lots of twists. Couldn’t figure out how it would all work out.
Doyle by Susan May Warren
Oh, those Minnesota Kingstons! But this book is all set in the Caribbean, so that was fun. Great story that has me salivating for the final two books in this series! This one won’t release on Amazon until May 2. If you want it now, you can get it here.
Freedom’s Distant Frontier by Lacy Williams
Another in the Wagon Train Matches series. You can’t get this one until May 2, but I assure you it’s another really good story. Who knew so much could happen on a wagon train journey?
Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham
Loved, loved, loved this rom-com set on the Island of Mull in Scotland. With all kinds of Scottish words and references. Now I want to go back to Scotland and visit Mull!
To Catch a Coronet by Grace Hitchcock
Cute Regency rom-com. Love the herione from a working class background suddenly thrust into society.
And I listened to more books in The Chronicles of Narnia series. Even if you aren’t as big of a BBC watcher as I am, you’ll probably recognize the names of some of these actors who read the books.
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
Always a favorite. Such a great story for adults and children! I listened to the one read by Michael York.
The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis
I think the last time I re-read these books—somewhere around a decade ago—this was my favorite. And it still is. The story of a peasant boy who discovers he’s the son of a king. Read by Alex Jennings.
Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis
Another good one. This time a prince who overthrows a bad king with the help of the Pevensy kids. Read by Lynn Redgrave.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis
This book has one of my favorite scenes, but overall it is my least favorite book in the series. Go figure. But it’s read by Derek Jacobi, so that made it more enjoyable for me.
That’s it for this month! I have so many books I’m itching to read sitting in my TBR pile—and so many coming out that I’m excited about. And yet I cannot read all day long or I wouldn’t get any writing done.
Sigh.
Have you read any of these? What’s been your favorite read in April?
