Genre Hopping

Do you read only one genre? Is it this or that—but never both? How about music? Is the soundtrack of your life all from one type of music or does it fluctuate based on mood and situation?

I confess, I’m a genre hopper in all things. I read both contemporary and historical fiction—and almost every sub genre within those! I don’t like to read one romance after another. Or one suspense after another. Not even one classic after another! I get bored. I enjoy variety.

For me, this applies to music as well, which is a bit harder to accommodate! I’ve solved this desire for variety in my music with a playlist I call “Random.” I literally throw in any song I like—classical, musical, country, pop, rock, praise and worship, 80s—you name it, it’s in there—and when I play that playlist, I always shuffle it. I never know what will come up, and I love that! (Note: this drives my husband insane! 😂)

I know a lot of people read or listen to just one thing—and like it that way. But I’d love to know if there are other genre hoppers out there!

Can she trust the God of creation to make something beautiful of her life?”
