It’s been a wonderful month of reading! Lots of fiction and a couple of short history books for research. 

To Enchant a Lady’s Heart and To Marry an English Lord by Robin Lee Hatcher

I read the “box set” of these first two books in the series The British Are Coming. And no, they are not set during the American Revolution! Instead, they are 19th-century stories about Brits and the American West. To Enchant a Lady’s Heart is a novella that sets up the situation and characters for To Marry an English Lord. I loved them both so much! Of course, I’m not surprised. Robin Lee Hatcher has written a bazillion books over many years and is a great writer and storyteller. And adding Brits to a Western story? Be still my heart. 

The Juliet Code by Pepper Basham

This was one of my two audiobooks this month. Freddie and Grace continue to enchant and this mystery in particular kept me guessing until the end. And Venice. Did I mention Venice? 

A Slice of Summer by Melissa McClone

I’m loving this series of sweet, clean, contemporary romances set in a fictional small town, Silver Falls, on the West Coast. The town and its recurring characters are so charming. And Melissa knows how to write a good story. 

All My Secrets by Lynn Austin

My second audiobook this month. A great story of three generations of women and the secrets they have kept. These women are society women in New York at the end of the 19th century. I loved the twists and turns each woman’s story takes, and the way the youngest woman learns from both her mother and grandmother’s experiences. 

The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery by Amanda Cox

If you read my blog post last week, you know that this book has a similar setup to the one by Lynn Austin. (Or vice-versa!) The three generations of women in present-day, small-town Tennessee also had twists and turns which took this story of secrets in different directions. Another good read. 

One Last Stand by Susan May Warren

This final book of the Air One Alaska series ended with a bang! Wow! Some old friends from other series showed up and took the story international—beyond Alaska rescues to spycraft! I stayed up way too late one night because I got too far in and couldn’t put it down. It releases on Amazon October 8, but you can get it here right now!

The Bookseller of Inverness by S. G. MacLean

Y’all! I loved this book so much! I think I got it on Amazon First Reads one month and put it in my husband’s Kindle file to read. Which he did. And he enjoyed it. So I finally read it, too. It’s history and a mystery all in one. If you enjoy Scottish history—especially concerning the Jacobites—and Scottish places (I loved that a few of the places mentioned we’d visited ourselves!), you very well might like this one. I just downloaded another of her books, which just tells you how much I enjoyed this one! 

William Bird and Mark Bird by Daniel A. Graham

I found these two books when we visited Hopewell Furnace in Pennsylvania over Labor Day weekend. Short but fascinating accounts of two ironmasters in early America. 

Over the next couple of months, I will be intentionally reading some of the Christy Award finalist books because my sister and I will be going to the Christy Awards dinner in November. Looking forward to some great reads!
