November Reads

In: Reading on: December 1, 2020

Not much reading going on this month with all our moving chaos and Thanksgiving, but here’s what I’ve got:

The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel

Finally finished this mammoth book! I love her meticulous historical detail and lovely use of language. The hardest part about this book for me with the eerie way it mirrored our recent life experiences. At least our situation only involved a resignation and a move, not a trip to the Tower of London and a beheading! Still, even with all that, the Wolf Hall trilogy will always be a favorite of mine!

The Geometry of Holding Hands by Alexander McCall Smith

This is the latest installment in his Isabel Dalhousie series. I loved it so much! I finished it and declared it my favorite of his books, but my husband said I say that every time I read a new one! Guess that’s why we own all his books!

Notting Hill in the Snow by Jules Wake

I wanted so much to like this book—and truly there was a lot to like. Great writing. Great characters. Fun situations to perpetuate the romance. And because it is a mainstream book, very few cuss words and no explicit sex. But I could not get past the fact that the hero was a married man whose wife came back asking for a 2nd chance. Yes, she was a very selfish person, and yes, they were separated during the building romance with the heroine, but it’s hard for me to celebrate a relationship that happens while one or more of the participants is married to someone else.

That’s it for now! I’m diving deep into Christmas stories, but the movers arrive with our stuff a week from today, then the kids begin arriving on December 18! Fun stuff, but less reading time.
