So this is follow up to this post on writing out Psalm 119. After that section I told you about, where the Psalmist listed all the things that God does for me came a section that then enumerated all the things that should be my response. Some of them I found quite surprising. Look at the text:
May Your lovingkindness also come to me, O Lord, Your salvation according to Your word;
So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me, for I trust in Your word.
ANd do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for I wait for Your ordinances.
So I will keep Your law continually, forever and ever.
And I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts.
I will also speak of Your testimonies before kings and shall not be ashamed.
I shall delight in Your commandments, which I love; and I will meditate on Your statutes.
Psalm 119:41-48
Interesting when you look at these two consecutive sections of Psalm 119 and compare our part–answer, trust, wait, keep, walk, seek, speak, not be ashamed, delight and mediate–to His part–teach me, give me understanding, make me walk, incline my heart, turn my eyes, revive me, establish Your word, turn away my reproach. I need to be careful not to confuse the two, to try to make happen on my own the things that He has committed to do. Seems like this has been a recurring theme in my life the past couple of years. But I love seeing it spelled out in scripture this way.

“to try to make happen on my own the things that He has committed to do.” Will be praying on this today.
Thanks for the inspiration!

It’s so easy to take over the parts He said He would do, isn’t it? I tend to think it’s my job to find understand or to revive myself and like. Doing some serious meditating on this myself!

Love this! It’s soooo easy for me to slip into trying to make things happen on my own. But, um, that just never ends well. 🙂 I’m thankful God constantly gives me reminders–like your blog today–that it’s always, always better to trust Him to do what He’s said He’s going to!

Nope. Never. I spent the whole first half of my Christian life trying to make myself like Jesus instead letting Him spearhead the transformation. I still get it confused sometimes! But it’s sooo much better the other way around. 🙂
