February Reads

In: Reading on: February 27, 2026

A slower reading month, mostly because my days have been full, so my reading has been at night. But I can truly say that each of these books I can highly recommend as great reads!

The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

I absolutely adore a good epistolary novel (a novel written in letters). And this one was amazing! I loved seeing different facets of the main character through her letters to different people. And learning about—and coming to understand—her life in bits and pieces. I’ll eventually pick this one up in a physical copy to have in my library!

On the Cliffs of Foxglove Manor by Jamie Jo Wright

I’d been quite a while since I’ve read a Jamie Jo book. She is a master at creating the gothic vibe. This dual timeline story grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Family drama. Heart-pounding suspense. Eerie mystery. And a satisfying ending. Loved it.

The Belle of Chatham by Laura Frantz

A quiet romance set in the midst of the turning point battle of the American Revolution. I absolutely loved these characters and how their lives intersected the real history of the war for independence. In this year in which we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, this is a great read to put you there.

North by Susan May Warren

Well, if you’ve read Susie’s last, oh, eight or nine series, you’ve definitely run across the rogue spy Alan Martin, who has wreaked havoc on the characters. North is the first in a four-book series that resolves the Alan Martin storyline! This, of course, started us off with a bang. You can pre-order from Amazon (releases March 6) or grab a copy NOW from Susie’s website! (Which is what I did!)

Written in the Mist by Naomi Rawlings

This was my first Naomi Rawlings book, but it won’t be my last! I was drawn to this book because it is the first in a series about Alaska when it first became a U.S. territory. I never really thought about what that meant in terms of culture and governance when it moved from Russian rule to American rule. Also, a wonderful romance and an intriguing mystery, so this one has it all!

Track of Courage by Susan May Warren

I was reading this contemporary set in Alaska at the same time I was reading the previously mentioned historical set in Alaska! This book builds off the Alaska Air One series. It was a great read. But I expect no less from Susie! Romance. Suspense. And spiritual truth.

The Winter List by S. G. Maclean

Loved this final novel in the Damian Seeker series. Although it isn’t always listed as part of that series, you must read the series first to get the full satisfaction of the story, and especially the ending. Historical suspense at its best!

Meeting her Match by Jen Turano

What happens when one of New York’s 400 travels to West Virginia to help a young heiress become more polished? Hilarious happens. This is the final book of The Matchmakers series, and it was a doozy! I listened to this one on the advice of my sister, who said the narrator did a great job with the voices. And she did! Laugh out loud funny, as Jen’s books tend to be.

And yep, we’re done! But March will likely be a big reading month for three reasons:

  1. My book goes to my editor March 1.
  2. March is a longer month.
  3. I’m at the halfway point of two books at the moment!

What was your favorite read in February? I’d love to hear!

I read The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. It’s going on my list of lifetime favorites! I loved it so much!!
I also really loved Yours Cheerfully by AJ Pearce, the second book in the Emmy Lake Chronicles. I love this series so much so far. Have you read these yet?

I’m in a very long wait line for the correspondent at the library. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a Laura Frantz book. I should get back to her.

I have not read the Emmy Lake Chronicles. I’ll have to look up the series! The Correspondent is worth the wait! And if you want to get back to Laura Frantz, I highly recommend The Rose and the Thistle and The Belle of Chatham!

Way to go about your new book! The Alaska book sounds neat. Tracie Patterson and Kimberley Woodhouse did a good series set during the Gold Rush about 3 sisters. I like Gothic fiction too. Epistolary novels are fun. I started Freedom of Surrender by Mary DeMuth. It has beautiful art!

Thanks! I haven’t read Tracie and Kimberly’s Alaska series, but this one was so intriguing that I might hit that different aspect of the history. And yes, Mary’s artwork is as stunningly beautiful as her words are.
