December Reads

Home » Reading » December Reads

In: Reading on: December 31, 2020

2020 definitely turned into a year of reading for me. December was no exception, even with all the unpacking, decorating, and shopping! Of course they were essentially all Christmas stories, which is always fun.

A Log Cabin Christmas: 9 novellas by various authors

As usual with any complication, there were some stories I enjoyed more than others, but overall I enjoyed the book.

Tale of Two Hearts and The Old Lace Shop by Michelle Griep

These were books 2 and 3 in Michelle Greip’s Once upon a Dickens Christmas series—and they were great! I loved all the homages to Dickens but in a fresh story.

An Ivy Hill Christmas by Julie Klassen

So fun to visit Ivy Hill at Christmas time! And a very sweet story. A quick and enjoyable read!

The Unfinished Gift by Dan Walsh

Dan Walsh books always make me cry. Always. And yet this heart-wrenching story was so precious. Loved it!

Christmas Comes to Bethlehem, Maine: 4 novellas by various authors

This compilation consists of 4 novellas all set in the same town and centering around the town’s yearly live nativity. Each one was different in spite of the same backdrop. And each one was great!

The Christmas Hirelings by Mary Elizabeth Braddon

I’ve had this book on my radar for a couple of years and finally took the plunge. Of course it was written in 1875, so the style is definitely not today’s style. But I’m okay with that. I’m a read-the-classics kind of girl anyway. That said, while predictable, this was such a sweet story. I’m so glad I read it! I’d love a physically copy for my library.

The Songs of Jesus by Tim and Kathy Keller

Jeff and I started reading this on January 1, 2020. It’s a daily devotional that goes through the Psalms in a year. Highly recommended. I looked forward to each passage, each commentary, each prayer. They both challenged and encouraged me.

That’s it! 103 books in 2020. Next week, look for a post with my top 5 2020 reads!

Now on to 2021 and all the new books and authors to be read!
