In: Reading on: April 30, 2021

April has been a really busy month at our house. It feels more like life before the pandemic! Not in every aspect, but getting closer. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been reading! It’s quite a variety of types of books this month.

Making the Marquess by Nichole Van

This is the 4th of 5 books in the Brotherhood of the Black Tartan series. Oh my! Each book is amazing and surprising in and of itself—and this one is no exception!—but the overarching story which will culminate in the final book has been captivating as well! Can’t wait to see how this will end!

To Sketch a Sphinx by Rebecca Connolly

This is the final book in the London League series, which I have loved. This one was great, because who doesn’t love a marriage of convenience romance + Regency spies? And at the end of this book, she seamlessly leads you into her new series—Agents of the Convent. Can’t wait to get started on that series!

You Have Arrived at Your Destination by Amor Towles

Technically this is a short story. But a very fascinating and well-written one. Check it out. It’s free for Amazon Prime members.

Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke

Yes, the book from the 70s about Marty and Clark Davis on the prairies of Canada. I loved these books but haven’t read them in a long time. Suddenly I wanted to see if the story stood the test of time. And you know what? It did. I’ll probably eventually re-read the whole series, but for now it was nice to get reacquainted with old friends.

The Light at Wyndcliff by Sarah E. Ladd

The third in Sarah Ladd’s Cornwall series. It was good, but I think my favorite of the series was still the first one. But it’s hard not to like a story about smugglers and wreckers and secrets and unexpected love.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Last year I re-read the first Harry Potter book for the first time since its release and realized I’d forgotten what a good storyteller Rowling is. And since I’ve never read any of the other books in the series I decided to keep venturing forward. Again, a great story. I loved how she used even what seemed like innocuous details from the beginning to bring about a thrilling conclusion. And I do love the “lesson” Harry learns toward the end of each book.

Life Without Lack: Living in the Fulness of Psalm 23 by Dallas Willard

This was my first Dallas Willard book—and oh, how I loved it! It is thought-provoking and convicting yet also hopeful and encouraging. I will definitely be reading more of his work. But this one in particular rocketed to my short list of life-changing Christian living books. I highly recommend it.

I read one other book this month, but it hasn’t been released yet. I will add it to the month it comes out so I can link you to it in case you want to read it!

On to May’s books . . .

I’m so glad! I’ll be sad to see it end, but I’m sooooo ready to find out what happened to Jaime! 🙂
