An Everyday Miracle

Home » Faith » An Everyday Miracle

In: Faith on: May 10, 2024

I usually think of miracles as big, important things, but recently I experienced one of those little, extraordinary yet everyday miracles.

Here’s what happened.

I went to TJ Maxx to get a couple of short-sleeved shirts. (I have quite a few sleeveless shirts, but as I grow older . . . ) When I reached the counter, a lovely woman with a huge braided bun began to ring up my purchases. I complimented her hair and we started chatting. Then this exchange:

“Oh, did you see the jeans that are almost the wash as this shirt?” (Holds up a chambray button-down with flutter sleeves.)

“No, I didn’t.”

“I can go find them on the rack for you.”

“That’s okay. I don’t really have time to try on anything else today. But thanks.”

“Are you sure? What are you, a [size redacted]?”

Jaw drops and I nod.

“I’ll be right back.”

Two minutes later, three pairs of jeans, two of which are soft and cute. But I’ve taken armloads of jeans into dressing rooms and come out with zero. Many. Times. So much so that I rarely wear jeans anymore.

“I’ll take those two,” I say impulsively, indicating the jeggings, which feel almost as soft as pjs and the wide-leg jeans which are currently fashionable. I can bring them back if—when—they don’t fit. I believe this so deeply that I don’t even look at the prices!

I get home. I try on said jeans.

And I love them both!

Whaaaaat?

This just does not happen to me. Ever.

Oh—and did I mention the prices? $17 and $20. Um, okay.

I returned to the store a few days later, found the woman—Bridget—and took a picture with her so I could show you her lovely face.

It truly feels like a miracle, these two pairs of jeans. Gifts from the Lord for a desire I hadn’t even voiced—jeans that fit and were priced right.

When’s the last time you experienced an everyday miracle? Tell us about it!

I recently experienced something similar. I never can find jeans long enough for me – I’m all legs. A few weeks ago, I had to pop into Walmart for groceries and scanned the clearance rack while I was there, also hoping to maybe find some wider-leg jeans. Not only did I find a pair of carpenter-style jeans that fit for $17, but when I checked out, they rang up at $10! So yes, an everyday miracle. 🙂 Don’t you love those? (Your new pants look great!)

What a great story! I guess people who aren’t “all legs” like us don’t really understand these kinds of jeans miracles! 😂
