A Weekend with My People

Home » Writing » A Weekend with My People

In: Writing on: September 21, 2015

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been to any writing conferences. And I confess that it was with not a little fear and trepidation that I embarked on my journey to this year’s ACFW conference. But once I was there, it felt like being home again. It’s been 10 years since I joined this organization. I wouldn’t be published today without them. And now I have so very many friends with whom I’ve walked this writing road that when I see them (or meet them!) face-to-face, our conversations go immediately to deeper places. What a joy to encourage and to be encouraged, to hear and to tell what God is doing both in and through us. Those conversations are my favorite part of being with other writers, of connecting with old friends and making new ones. I can’t even name all the people that made this weekend so wonderful, and I didn’t take nearly enough pictures! I’m already looking forward to the next time the Lord will allow us to connect in person.

Mary and me ACFW15
My sweet friend Mary DeMuth. We’ve been critique partners for over 12 years–before either of us were published!
Kerry, Carla, me ACFW15
Kerry Johnson–who I finally got to meet in person–and my dear, dear friend Carla Stewart, who writes great books.
Guidposts ACFW15
Loved getting to meet the Guideposts editors, Jon Woodhams and Susan Downs, and other Guideposts author friends, like Elizabeth Ludwig and Anita Higman.
Lisa and me ACFW15
My darling friend Elizabeth Ludwig. She’s such a joy to be with–and she writes great books, too!

I’m teary-eyed from the great memories. Thanks for the nudge to sign up for this year’s conference and for the late night chats. I’m so excited about our future and that God has us in his very capable hands. Now, to get back to the keyboard and writing those stories. God Bless!!

Such a great time! I’m so glad you came. And while I love meeting new friends at the conference, I most love going deeper with long-time friends. Loved our late night chats! Can’t wait to do it again one day!

Bea wants nothing more than to go to college and learn more about the world God created. Her mother even left money in trust for her to do so. She only wishes her father supported her dream. But when Papa gets into financial trouble in the young town of Fort Worth, Texas, Bea must decide what is more important—her education or her father's well-being. Can she trust the God of creation to make something beautiful of her life?”
