Lots of travel means lots of audiobooks. If you count three as “lots,” which I do! Read several others this month that I’ve owned for a while and kept meaning to get to. Oh, and one re-read!
The Silver Chair and The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis

I finally finished listening to all the Chronicles of Narnia. I haven’t done this (read the series) in several years, so I’d forgotten many of the stories. Coming away from them as a whole, my favorites are The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle. I love the picture of the new heavens and new earth in The Last Battle. Makes me long for my true home in a good way!
As You Wish by Cary Elwes
I had heard that the audiobook of this memoir about the making of the movie The Princess Bride was fabulous. And it was! First, Cary Elwes (Dread Pirate Roberts/Wesley) reads it. But he also brings in other actors to give their recollections, as well as Rob Reiner, the director, and one of the other producers. I learned so many things about both the book and the movie that I didn’t know. I need to re-watch the movie now. I know I will love it all the more!
The Meet-Cute Manuscript by Kim Duffy
If you’ve read Kimberly Duffy’s historical fiction, you’ll know she’s a great writer. But historical writers don’t always transition to contemporary well. Not the case with Kim! Oh my! I adored this contemporary romance set in England. I even cried at the end, which is rare for me these days! Can’t wait for her to write more!
The Promise in Poppies by Rachael Bloome
The final book (except for a Christmas novella I’ll get to this fall!) in the Poppy Creek series. And it was a doozy! Loved getting to see all the characters from the other books. And a perfect end to the series. I cried in this one, too. Clearly this was an emotional reading month!
Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
This is a re-imagined tale of mythology with so many heart-rending—in good and hard ways—spiritual truths. I read this years ago, listened to it last fall, and then re-read it this month since our book club at church is discussing it tonight! It was interesting to see some of the same themes as in Chronicles of Narnia since I’ve recently listened to them as well. Honestly, it’s like Chronicles of Narnia condensed and for adults. I love it so much.
The Blackout Book Club by Amy Lynn Green
Another nice World War II Homefront book by Amy Lynn Green, though I confess I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed some of her others. But it’s still a good book.
Burning Hearts by Lisa Phillips
I needed a romantic suspense fix since the next Susan May Warren doesn’t release until June! This series was created by Lisa and Susan, so win-win. Especailly since it also involves characters from another of their series I read last year.
Goodbye to Budapest by Margarita Morris
This book was full of history I didn’t know, which I love. But I wasn’t a fan of so many POV characters. I feel like this makes none of the characters indepth enough to come alive for me. But the writing and history are good and likely others won’t mind the many POV characters.
Wow, that was a lot! On to June . . . where I am currently in the middle (or further on) of four books right now! And there are new releases that will jump ahead of the other ones in my stack. Sigh.
What was your favorite read in May?
