Reminding Myself

Home » Faith » Reminding Myself

In: Faith on: May 12, 2022

As my adult children are getting themselves settled into houses and jobs and children, I’ve been praying—a lot! Those are big things. And each brings with it other ups and downs to weather. At some moments it is hard to stand back and watch. I tend to want to jump in and help. But I’ve learned from past experience that the best thing I can do is pray—and remind myself (and them) of God’s truth.

So I’ve been chewing on and praying several verses lately. For them, yes, but also for Jeff and I, for other family and friends, too. I thought today I’d share my top five with you in case you need them, too!

1. I usually start with an oldie but goodie!

My translation: Because the Lord is my Shepherd I will not lack anything. He will give me everything I need, even when it doesn’t makes sense to me and appears that I lack.

2. I’ve camped in Psalm 103 for a while and it continues to speak to me, especially verses 17-18:

Everlasting lovingkindness. Meditate on that!

3. I find another reminder that God will give us everything we need here:

My translation: If God gave us Jesus, what reason is there to withhold any thing else? He has already given His all. How will He not take care of those He purchased with the blood of Jesus?

4. I often return to I John 3. The beginning of verse 16 speaks especially to my heart.

My translation: if I know and believe God’s love, I can better understand that He will do good to me. For we don’t abuse or withhold from those we truly love. And God’s love is so much more pure than ours!

5. I take great comfort in the story of Joseph, especially his understanding of what God did through his adversity.

Even when circumstances feel like someone means evil—or even just unfairness!—against my children (or anyone, really), I remember this. That God was still in control, putting Joesph in exactly the time and place he needed to be in order to preserve Abraham’s descendants, just as He had promised.

Are there specific scriptures that have been meaningful to you lately? Please share!

    Thank you, D’Ann.
I’m learning to be satisfied with where I am and what I have. God gives me what I need for today’s problems. God has taken bad circumstances and choices and worked them into good.
When you have lived as long as I have you can look back and see how God has supplied abundantly !

Your chosen verses helped a lot on this particular day. When I am feeling sorry for myself, I work lound, you have so much for which to be thankful, most importantly a loving God.

Yes! We have to remind ourselves of that truth. God loves us–and He has given us so much to be thankful for, even on our worst days.
