Welcome, Susie! Please start by introducing us to yourself and your family.
I was born in Detroit, MI, but have spent most of my life in Maryland. I come from a small family ….. just my parents (now deceased) and one younger brother.
I was born in Detroit, too! But I’ve spent most of my life in Texas. 🙂 When did you come to see yourself as a reader and what kind of reader to you consider yourself to be?
I was born with a book in hand!! Mom was a librarian and English teacher and her love of books most definitely rubbed off on me. Our favorite past time while I was growing up was perusing the shelves of used book stores. Nothing like the smell of an old book! =)
That’s a great legacy of reading. No wonder you had a book in hand ASAP! And what a lovely memory of your mother. So tell us what you like to read.
I read Christian fiction pretty exclusively ….. mysteries, Amish anything, romance, etc. Some of my favorite authors include Colleen Coble, Amy Clipston,, Dani Pettrey, Anne Mateer, Liz Curtis Higgs, and Cindy Woodsmall.
I’m honored to be included with that list, Susie. They are some of my favorite authors and people. What’s the last book you finished and what are you currently reading?
I just finished reading Living in Harmony by Mary Ellis. I am currently reading A Home for My Heart by Anne Mateer.
🙂 Do you have a favorite time and place to read?
I will read anytime …..anywhere!!!!
What is the most unusual circumstance/place in which you’ve been found reading?
I have been known to stand in line for something with a book in hand.
Makes sense. We seem to wait in lines everywhere these days. Do you read physical books, ebooks, or both?
I mostly read “real” books, but do have a kindle and have downloaded quite a few free books. Then I forget to read them because they aren’t right in front of me!! =)
I have a similar problem with my ebooks. So many I want to read but when I don’t see them, I forget they are there! Do you buy your books, borrow them from friends or check them out of the library? (Or all of the above!)
I haven’t been to a library in 20 years or more. I usually buy my books and working in a Christian bookstore, that comes in quite handy. So do the perks of damaged books or Advance Reader Copies that we get. =D
A bookstore is the perfect job for a reader, isn’t it? I worked in one during college for awhile and loved it! Do you have any favorite foods or drinks that generally accompany your reading?
Nope ….. I usually don’t eat or drink while I’m reading ….unless I’m eating a meal and then I’ll juggle between eating, reading and checking face book updates. I can multi-task with the best of them. LOL!!
As readers, we find a way to read and do almost anything else at the same time, don’t we? Because it is all about having that book in your hand. Finally, it’s true confessions time: have you ever forgotten something important (to fix dinner or that dinner was in the oven or an appointment, etc) because you were lost in the pages of a book?
I’ve never forgotten something because I’ve been reading, but I do have to be careful while on my break at work or I could easily go past the allotted time I’m given. (OK ….. so maybe that HAS happened a few times ……… )
LOL! I imagine so! It’s so hard to stop once you get started in a good story. Thank you so much for sharing a little bit of yourself with us today, Susie. I enjoyed having you here today.
Happy Reading, Y’all!
Katrina
Wonderful interview Anne. Nice to meet you Susie. I love that you read anywhere even standing in line. Anywhere I go, I take a book.
Blessings
