My Novelette’s New Cover

Home » History » My Novelette’s New Cover

In: History, Reading, Uncategorized, Writing on: April 23, 2026

Many of you have downloaded and read my novelette, The Work of His Hands. When I wrote it and was ready to give it to you, I didn’t want to pay a cover designer. I tried to do it myself with a combo of AI and Canva. The result was very underwhelming, but it was all I had.

Recently, I learned some things about cover creation with AI and Canva, and I put that new knowledge to the test! (Thank you, Grace Hitchcock!) The result? What I believe to be a much better cover! Do you agree?

If you receive my newsletter and haven’t read this story set in Fort Worth, Texas, you can click here, put in the email address where you receive my newsletter, and download your copy.

If you don’t already subscribe to my newsletter and want to read this story, you can click here. After entering your email address, you’ll not only get this free novelette, but you’ll hear from me each Saturday with a link to my weekly post, a bit of news, and a note about one of my current reads.

This summer, I plan to release a new novelette as a gift for my newsletter subscribers. It will connect to a secondary character in my upcoming novel and hopefully whet your appetite for that story. I can’t wait to share it with you!

It makes me happy to be able to gift something to you, dear readers, for you give so much encouragement to me!

I like the corner scrolling. The cover makes me think of Big Bend or west of Wichita Falls. It’s easier to see the stars.

"The Work of His Hands: a novelette”

Bea wants nothing more than to go to college and learn more about the world God created. Her mother even left money in trust for her to do so. She only wishes her father supported her dream. But when Papa gets into financial trouble in the young town of Fort Worth, Texas, Bea must decide what is more important—her education or her father's well-being. Can she trust the God of creation to make something beautiful of her life?”

Along with the story you’ll receive my newsletter updates as well.
