I don’t pre-order a ton of books—partly because I have so many sitting around still to be read and partly because it’s hard to log that money as spent until it is, and then it can catch me short on my book budget!
Still, there are simply some books I need the moment they release into the world. So I thought I’d share with you the titles I have currently pre-ordered.
In Her Sights by Karen Witemeyer
Release date: March 30, 2023
This novella the first in a new series called The Pink Pistol Sisterhood. Each book will be written by a different western romance writers. Since I love Karen’s stories so much—and this one even has an Annie Oakley appearance—how could I resist? This is a kindle preorder, and a deal at $2.99.
Jonas by Susan May Warren
Release date: April 4, 2023
Yep, Susie is doing it to us again—each book releasing about a month after the one before it. And since I raced through book one, Fraser, I have to know what happens next in Jonas. Because of course the last page gave us the information that Jonas is in trouble of some kind. This is book 2 of the Montana Marshalls series. I’m sure I’ll pre-order #3 when it goes up. This is a kindle pre-order, and the price goes up after release day!
Return to Satterthwaite Court by Mimi Matthews
Release date: April 11, 2023
Number three in the Somerset Stories series, which has included such wonderful books as The Work of Art (the first Mimi Matthews book I ever read, the one that made me go back and read all her backlist!) and Gentleman Jim. So very excited for this one to get here. I adore Mimi’s books. This is another kindle preorder and since this series was before she was picked up by a big publisher, it’s still only $4.99 for the kindle instead of over $10 with the new publisher!
In this Moment by Gabriella Meyer
Release date: May 2, 2023
This is the 2nd book in the Timeless series. It’s historical fiction. It’s time travel fiction. The first book, When the Day Comes was one of my favorites of 2022—and my pick for my local book club to read! So of course I pre-ordered this one. And in print, since I have the first one in print, too. I love preordering from Baker Book House, where the print copy is 40% off and free shipping. (Baker publishes Bethany House and Revell fiction, so these are generally the ones with the pre-order deals!)
We might have one more on pre-order, I’m not sure. Usually we pre-order (in hardcover, no less!) every Alexander McCall Smith novel. And he puts out so many a year that I feel like we always have one on pre-order!
So those are the books in line right now. The ones that will get here and I will, of course, ignore the stacks waiting to be read and dive into these new ones. Can anyone else relate?
Do you ever pre-order books? What’s your criteria for doing so?
Linda Hutchins
I’ve pre-ordered three out of four of these books, for the same reasons as you! But I think I will read Susie’s series when they are all out so that I don’t obsess about how things will resolve at the end of each book, even with only a month between releases. And my ever growing TBR pile just looks at me and sighs.
D'Ann Mateer
I completely get that! Sometimes I feel like I’m torturing myself reading Susie’s as they come out! 🙂 And yes, that ever-growing TBR pile. Sigh.
