Portrait of a Reader: Jenny T.

Home » Reading » Portrait of a Reader: Jenny T.

In: Reading, Uncategorized on: May 2, 2014

Welcome, Jenny! Please start by introducing us to yourself and your family.

My husband Adam and I have been married for 16 years and we have 4 boys ages 8-15 yrs of age. We currently live in Kentucky at Blue Grass Christian Camp where my husband is the Maintenance Manager and I take care of the lodge rooms plus our kids, one dog, one hermit crab, two fish tanks and three cats. I love to read books and I like horses, which are my favorite animal.

Portrait of a Reader: Jenny T..

You are definitely one busy lady! So, Jenny, when did you first came to identify yourself as a reader? Do you consider yourself a casual reader, a sporadic reader, a serious reader or an all-out bibliophile?

I’ve been reading since I could remember, and I would definitely say I’m an all out bibliophile–and my husband would fully agree.

I hear you. What would we do without supportive husbands? What do you most enjoy reading now?

Christian Fiction is my favorite genre. I especially enjoy Love Inspired inspirationals and novels. My favorite authors are Jillian Hart, Susan Sleeman, Linda Wood Rondeou, Carrie Turansky, Rachelle McCalla, and so on. I could fill up a whole page of authors.

It is so hard to choose just a few, isn’t it? So many, many good writers and storytellers out there! What is the last book you finished and what are you currently reading?

Sadie’s Secret by Kathleen Y’Barbo. I’m currently reading Shadowed by Grace  by Cara Putman and First Kisses by Linda Goodnight, Janet Tronstad, Debra Clopton, Margaret Daley, Camy Tang, and Lacy Williams. All them awesome!

Do you have a favorite time and place to read?

I love to read when I go to bed and if it’s nice outside I sit on our deck and read during the day.

Sitting outside to read is pretty much the only outdoor activity I enjoy! 🙂 Of course, it has to be just right–not too hot or too cold. So what is the most unusual circumstance/place in which you’ve been found reading?

Waiting for a movie to start, in a car waiting for my husband, bathroom :0), doctors offices and anywhere I have to wait.

Yep. I’ve definitely read on my phone while in a theater waiting for a movie to start! So glad books can go anywhere we might have to wait. Do you read physical books, ebooks, or both?

Read both!

Do you buy your books, borrow them from friends or check them out of the library? (Or all of the above!)

I buy them, trade back and forth with my mom, and go to the library. I also shop bargain book stores and rummage sales.

All great ways to find books! Even with all the new titles coming out I love to find an older one I’ve missed. Do you have any favorite foods or drinks that generally accompany your reading?

Chocolate and green tea!

Yum! Love ’em both! Finally, it’s true confessions time: have you ever forgotten something important (to fix dinner or that dinner was in the oven or an appointment, etc) because you were lost in the pages of a book?

This is hard to admit but yes, I have forgotten the time, especially while reading a suspense book and I don’t want to put it down. I think that’s why God gave me kids so that I’d remember to eat and come back to reality.

There have been times that I’m reading while my family is watching TV and my husband will ask me a question about the show and I won’t know it because I’m so caught up in the book I’m reading.

Lol! But they are all happy because you are in the room with them even if your alternate reality is in your book and not on the TV, right?

Thank you so much for sharing a little bit of yourself with us today, Jenny. I’m sure everyone else enjoyed getting to know you, too!

Happy Reading, Y’all!

I can relate so much to Jenny. I have taken a book to read before bed, thinking I will only read for about half an hour, only to discover that it is 5:00 a.m. and I just finished the book, because I couldn’t put it down.

I, also, take my ereader with me everywhere. I read while waiting in line for rides at amusement parks. I used to read at red lights and in traffic jams, until I discovered audio books, now I read while I am driving.

I even continue the story while I sleep. The characters just won’t leave and take me on many adventures with them.

I love books, because they are my time machine, airplane and rocketship. I thank God for the authors He has placed in my life, those that are currently writing and those that have been before.

Isn’t it so fun to have adventures without even leaving your life? I love that, too! 🙂
