Sorry to be a day late. My excuse? Being in Boston with my daughter!
My reading slowed a bit this month, likely because we could finally get out and about a bit more. And the fact that I was deep into an editing job. And that I spent 10 days celebrating my sweet girl’s Ph.D. then helping her drive from Texas to Boston to get her set up in her new apartment!
The Bridge to Belle Island by Julie Klassen
Julie’s books are always a joy! I loved this one as much as I imagined I would. Characters are interesting and sympathetic. But I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this storyline with some twists and turns I didn’t expect!
The Bookman’s Tale by Charlie Lovett
I have enjoyed all of Charlie’s books that I have read. And I enjoyed this one, too. However there was more language and sex in this book, which was a disappointment. If you can stomach that, the book part of the story is intriguing, as usual.
A Spy’s Devotion by Melanie Dickerson
I had forgotten Melanie wrote a Regency series until I was looking for another Regency novel to read. I confess this wasn’t my favorite book of hers, but it did keep me reading until the end.
Rescuing Lord Inglewood by Sally Britton
I found this one by accident on Amazon and took a chance. And I was glad I did. I enjoyed this Regency novel very much and look forward to the rest of the series!
Home for Erring and Outcast Girls by Julie Kibler
I have been waiting for this book for a very long time. Years ago, I actually proposed a novel based on this real home in early 20th century Arlington, TX, that took in women in bad circumstances (prostitutes, drug addicts, unwed mothers) and helped them find new life and purpose. For that reason, and because I loved Julie’s debut novel, Calling Me Home, this book seemed destined to be enjoyed. And I did enjoy it. But I didn’t love it.
Serving Up Love: A Harvey House Brides Collection by Tracie Peterson, Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, and Jen Turano.
Quick reads full of fun and romance. I especially enjoyed all the different details about life as a Harvey House girl that each author used to tell their stories. I especially loved revisiting characters from Karen Witemeyer’s book More Than Words Can Say in her novella in this collection! (And at the moment of this posting, this collection of four novellas is only $1.59 on kindle!)
