Something I noticed as I meditated on this verse this week is that Paul reminds us that God gives us perseverance and encouragement before he talks to us about unity in the body of Christ. The reason that struck me is that, as we all know, unity–being of one mind with other Christians–is often hard. It requires much perseverance and encouragement. Which is exactly what God gives to us! It is because of His gifts of perseverance and encouragement that we can accept one another as Christ has accepted us.
