Hidden Riches by D'Ann Mateer

Hidden Riches, Book 6 in Guideposts’ Secrets From Grandma’s Attic series:

While helping her sister update on of the rooms in Grandma Pearl’s house, Amy Allen discovers a secret staircase hidden behind the wall. She and Tracy expect the staircase to lead to the attic once again, but are surprised to find a secret room instead. Inside they find a drafting table, mysterious sketches, and an antique locket with photographs of a little girl and boy inside. Whose belongings are these? And why are they hidden away?

As Amy researches the Depression years in Canton and begins to piece together the connections between the desk, the  sketches, the locket, and Grandma Pearl’s life in 1933, she is reminded that she is not the only one to ever question that God will provide. In a financial bind herself, Amy has been struggling to keep her family afloat on her own. But perhaps she will learn that God’s provision can come in the most mysterious of ways.

About the series: When Pearl Allen passes away the day after her 100th birthday, her granddaughter, Tracy, finds a worn, marked-up King James Bible and a trove of journals and scrapbooks in her cedar chest. These volumes record the joys and tragedies of life, beginning with Pearl’s Depression-era childhood. The diaries reveal the story of five generations of Tracy’s large family in poverty and wealth, sickness and health, sadness and joy. As Tracy reads them—and shares them with her sister, Amy, and her cousin, Robin, not only does she uncover clues that help her solve the mysteries she encounters today, she is also inspired by the legacy of deep, abiding faith, which has shaped and guided her family. These memorable mysteries reveal stories of faith, redemption, and second chances that capture your heart long after you turn the last page.
